Description

The Mastervolt Battery Mate 1602 IG is an electronic battery isolator that charges two independent battery banks from a single alternator or battery charger. Unlike conventional diode splitters, its MOSFET technology compensates for the voltage drop, so charging continues at the correct voltage level and the batteries charge quickly and fully without any adjustment to the alternator.

Because the voltage loss between the alternator and the batteries is negligible, the Battery Mate performs far better than a diode isolator. It is compatible with any type of alternator or battery charger, in both existing and new systems, even where the charge voltage cannot be adjusted. The 1602 IG suits alternators with a maximum charge current of up to 160 A.

A LED on the unit indicates when the power input is active. The corrosion-proof construction uses aluminium heat sinks with the electronic components encased in synthetic material, and the synthetic end plates carry the connection lugs for fast, secure installation.

How is the Battery Mate different from a conventional diode battery isolator?
The Battery Mate uses electronic MOSFET technology that compensates for the voltage drop, so the voltage loss between the alternator and battery is negligible. A conventional BI diode splitter has a voltage drop of around 0.6 V that has to be compensated by adjusting the charger or alternator. The Battery Mate needs no such adjustment.
How many batteries can the Battery Mate 1602 IG charge?
It has two battery outlets, so it charges two independent battery banks from a single alternator or battery charger.
What size alternator is the 1602 IG suitable for?
It is rated for a maximum alternator charge current of 160 A and a maximum battery charger output of 120 A.
Is it compatible with my existing charging system?
Yes. The Battery Mate is compatible with any type of alternator or battery charger in both existing and new systems, even where the charge voltage cannot be adjusted.
Does it show whether it is working?
Yes. A LED display on the unit indicates whether the power input is active.
