Description

The Garmin GT17M-THF is a high-power 1 kW mid-band CHIRP traditional transducer in a flush stainless steel thru-hull fitting, suitable for fibreglass, wood, composite, aluminium and steel hulls. Operating from 80 to 165 kHz, its concentrated 18 to 9 degree beam puts strong power on targets and reads to 730 m (2,400 ft) in freshwater and 545 m (1,800 ft) in saltwater. This 0 degree version has the correcting angle built into the housing, so it flush-mounts on hulls with 0 to 5 degrees of deadrise without cutting a separate fairing block, and included galvanic isolation components allow safe fitting to metal hulls. It is Garmin RapidReturn compatible, and a 15 m (50 ft) cable terminates in an 8-pin connector. As a 1 kW transducer it should be paired with a 1 kW-capable Garmin sounder; performance depends on the connected display.

Connectivity

Connector8-pin
Cable length15 m (50 ft)

Compatibility

Compatible devicesConnects to a Garmin chartplotter, fishfinder or sonar black box with an 8-pin sonar port; as a 1 kW transducer it requires a 1 kW-capable Garmin sounder. Garmin RapidReturn function depends on sonar module and chartplotter compatibility. Performance dependent upon the chartplotter, fishfinder or sounder model; a Garmin chartplotter software update is required at installation.

What sonar does the GT17M-THF provide?
It is a 1 kW mid-band CHIRP traditional transducer covering 80 to 165 kHz, designed for deep, high-power traditional sonar with strong target separation. It is Garmin RapidReturn compatible and supports a water-temperature reading on compatible displays. It does not provide ClearVu or SideVu scanning sonar.
Do I need a fairing block with this transducer?
No. The deadrise correction is built into the housing. This 0 degree version suits hulls with 0 to 5 degrees of deadrise. Point the arrow on the top to the keel so the internal angle aligns with the hull. Choose the 0 degree variant for 0 to 5 degrees, the 12 degree variant for 6 to 16 degrees, or the 20 degree variant for 17 to 24 degrees.
Which hull types can it be fitted to?
It has a stainless steel housing suitable for fibreglass, wood, composite, aluminium and steel hulls. When fitting it to an aluminium or steel hull you must install the included galvanic isolation components (flange isolator and housing isolator) to prevent galvanic corrosion.
How deep will it read?
Maximum depth is 730 m (2,400 ft) in freshwater and 545 m (1,800 ft) in saltwater, depending on water conditions, bottom type and the connected display.
What chartplotter or sounder do I need?
It uses an 8-pin connector on a 15 m (50 ft) cable. As a 1 kW transducer it should be connected to a 1 kW-capable Garmin sounder or sonar black box. Garmin RapidReturn depends on the sonar module and chartplotter. Update your chartplotter software when you install it.
