Description

The Victron Orion-Tr Smart 24/12-30 takes a 24V supply and charges a 12V service battery at up to 30A (360W continuous at 40 degrees C). A wide 16 to 35V input combined with a buck-boost design keeps the output stable even when the source voltage sags, which is common on boats and vehicles with long cable runs or a Euro 5 or Euro 6 smart alternator that supplies a reduced charging voltage.

An adaptive three-stage charge algorithm (bulk, absorption, float) recharges lead-acid and lithium batteries correctly, automatically shortening the absorption phase after a shallow discharge and extending it after a deep discharge. Engine-running detection protects the input battery from being drawn down, and the unit can instead serve as a fixed-voltage power supply. Built-in Bluetooth gives monitoring, configuration and firmware updates through the VictronConnect app.

The charger is short-circuit proof, can be paralleled in unlimited numbers to raise the available current, and provides IP43 protection for the electronics when fitted with the screw terminals facing downwards. A remote on/off input is included and no special tools are required to install it.

Is the Orion-Tr Smart 24/12-30 isolated?
No. It is a non-isolated charger, so input and output share a common negative. Where galvanic isolation between the 24V source and the 12V battery is needed, choose an isolated Orion-Tr Smart model.
Can it charge lithium batteries?
Yes. The adaptive three-stage algorithm supports both lead-acid and lithium batteries. For lithium the absorption time is fixed (default two hours) and all parameters are set in the VictronConnect app.
Will it work with a Euro 5 or Euro 6 smart alternator?
Yes. The wide 16 to 35V input and buck-boost design keep the output stable even when the alternator supplies a low voltage, and engine-running detection prevents the input battery from being discharged.
Can I add units to increase output current?
Yes. The charger is short-circuit proof and an unlimited number can be connected in parallel to increase the total available charge current.
Does it have a VE.Direct port?
No. The Orion-Tr Smart range has no VE.Direct port. Monitoring and configuration are handled over built-in Bluetooth using the VictronConnect app.
