The B&G H5000 Vertical Mast Head Unit is an ocean-proven, high-performance wind sensor that provides raw wind speed and angle data to the H5000 (and H3000) instrument system via a pulse/analogue output. This version has a 1050mm vertical wand. Of rugged, fully field-serviceable construction, it interfaces to the system through the H5000 Analog Expansion Module.

Description

The B&G H5000 Vertical Mast Head Unit (VMHU) is the wind sensor at the top of the H5000 instrument system. Based on B&G's ocean-proven masthead unit design, it provides raw wind speed and wind angle data to the system via a pulse/analogue output. This version is supplied with a 1050mm vertical wand.

Built for rugged offshore use and fully field serviceable, the masthead unit feeds wind data to the H5000 CPU through the H5000 Analog Expansion Module, where it is processed for display and, with a 3D Motion Sensor, motion-corrected for the most accurate wind solution. It is compatible with B&G H5000 and H3000 systems.

What does the Vertical Mast Head Unit measure?
The masthead unit is B&G's ocean-proven, high-performance wind sensor. It measures wind speed and wind angle at the top of the mast and provides this raw data to the instrument system.
How does the masthead unit connect to the H5000 system?
It provides a pulse/analogue output and is connected to the system through the H5000 Analog Expansion Module, which interfaces the masthead unit (and other analogue/pulse sensors) to the H5000 CPU.
What does the wand length (810mm, 1050mm, 1450mm) mean?
The figure is the length of the vertical wand that carries the wind sensor. A longer wand raises the cups and vane further above masthead turbulence, which can improve wind data quality on larger rigs.
Is it compatible with my existing B&G system?
Yes. The masthead unit is compatible with both B&G H5000 and H3000 systems, and it remains a preferred replacement sensor for existing installations.
Is the masthead unit serviceable?
Yes. It is of rugged construction and fully field serviceable, with spare parts such as cups, vane and bearings available separately.
Do I need a separate mast cable?
A mast cable is required to run the signal from the masthead unit down to the system. Confirm the cable length you need for your mast height when ordering, as the correct 213 mast cable is selected to suit your installation.
