Description
The DD15 Direct Drive is a compact, very strong electro-mechanical autopilot drive that is more efficient than most hydraulic and electro-mechanical drive units. It combines a flat-wound (pancake) electric motor with an efficient planetary and spur gearbox to deliver a maximum output torque of 150 Kgm (equivalent to 150 kg of force at the end of a 1 m tiller) while weighing just 12 kg, and it is built for 24 hours a day continuous operation. The drive suits boats from 30 to 45 ft with a mechanical steering system that can be back driven. A patented electro-magnetic clutch lets the unit be back-driven with the force of a fingertip, so the manual steering stays as sensitive as it would be without the drive fitted. The DD15 includes the Simrad RF300 rudder feedback unit with transmission link and 10 m of cable; a draglink (DL2030, DL3040 or DL4050) is ordered separately to suit the installation.
