Description

The EmpirBus NXT DCM (DC Module) is the workhorse of an EmpirBus NXT digital switching installation, connecting directly to the main DC power and translating commands from the network into real electrical outputs. Each module carries 16 universal, user-configurable bi-directional channels wired through two Molex MX150L connectors, so a single compact unit can both drive loads and read inputs.

Every output is electronically protected with programmable fuse sizing, under-current detection and soft start/stop, and can dim or sequence complex loads such as LED lighting and windscreen wipers directly. High-side and low-side switching simplify wiring, while channels may be paralleled for higher current. Configured as inputs, channels accept volt-free switches, multiplexed switches and analogue voltage, current or resistance signals. Communicating over CAN-bus NMEA 2000, the DCM lets the EmpirBus system replace conventional fuse boards and switch panels with intelligent, monitored control.

How many channels does the EmpirBus NXT DCM have?
The DCM provides 16 universal, user-configurable bi-directional channels. Each channel can be set as an output or an input, giving a single module the flexibility to both drive loads and read signals.
What output current can the DCM deliver?
Configured as outputs, the DCM offers high-side switching of 4 channels at 18 A and 12 channels at 10 A, plus 16 low-side channels at 0.5 A. Outputs can be paralleled to increase capacity, for example combining two channels for up to 36 A.
Does the DCM protect connected circuits?
Yes. Every output features electronic over-current protection with programmable fuse sizing and under-current detection, along with soft start and soft stop. There are no physical fuses to replace.
How does the DCM connect to the rest of the system?
The DCM communicates over CAN-bus NMEA 2000 using a Micro 5-pin M12 male connector, while loads connect through two Molex MX150L 16-circuit connectors and main DC power feeds in on M6 studs.
