Description
The Balmar Digital Duo Charge provides a safe, hands-off way to keep an engine starting battery charged from the vessel's house bank. Unlike switches, isolators and other charge-splitting devices, it installs between the house and starting batteries rather than between the alternator and the batteries, so the alternator and regulator can concentrate their output on the house bank's needs. When the Digital Duo Charge senses charging voltage at the house battery it works like a DC-to-DC charger, delivering up to 30 amps of regulated charging current to the starting battery, and when no charge source is present it separates the batteries so the starting battery cannot be accidentally discharged.
In most installations the Digital Duo Charge needs just four wires: a fused input, a fused output, a ground and an on/off wire, and it can be programmed for 12-volt or 24-volt operation. It features four charging programs based on standard flooded, deep cycle flooded, gel and AGM battery technologies, making it possible to safely mix house and starting battery types. Where more than 30 amps of charging current is required, the unit can drive an external solenoid, and when used with the optional MC-TS-B battery temperature sensor it discontinues charging in an over-temperature condition. It is supplied with fused input and output cables.

How does the Digital Duo Charge work?
It installs between the house and starting batteries. When it senses charging voltage at the house bank it acts like a DC-to-DC charger, sending up to 30 amps of regulated current to the starting battery. When there is no charge source it separates the batteries so the starting battery cannot be discharged into the house bank.
Can I use different battery types for house and starting banks?
Yes. The Digital Duo Charge has four selectable programs for standard flooded, deep cycle flooded, gel and AGM batteries, so it can control charging voltage to safely mix house and starting battery technologies.
What if I need more than 30 amps?
For banks that need more than 30 amps of charging current, the Digital Duo Charge can be wired to control an external solenoid relay, allowing a higher-capacity charge path. See the solenoid control section of the manual for details.
