Description

The AC16-20 Galvanic Isolator is a key safety component of the Ratio AC16 shore-power system. Fitted in the protective earth conductor between the shore supply and the boat, it blocks the low-voltage galvanic (DC) currents that flow through the earth connection when a vessel is plugged into a marina pontoon, while still passing AC fault currents so the safety earth continues to work normally.

By interrupting those stray galvanic currents, the isolator dramatically reduces galvanic corrosion of underwater metals such as propellers, shafts, sterngear and anodes, protecting the boat from costly electrolytic damage. It shares the AC16 snap-in connection system, so it installs quickly in line with the inlet and consumer unit without special tools.

What does a galvanic isolator do?
It is fitted in the shore-power earth conductor and blocks the small DC galvanic currents that pass between your boat and neighbouring boats or the pontoon through the earth connection. This prevents galvanic corrosion of underwater metals while still allowing AC fault currents through so the safety earth keeps working.
Why do I need one when connecting to a marina?
Whenever a boat is plugged into shore power it shares a common earth with other vessels, which can drive galvanic currents that corrode anodes, propellers, shafts and sterngear. The AC16-20 interrupts those currents, protecting your underwater metals from costly electrolytic damage.
Does it fit the rest of the AC16 system?
Yes. It uses the AC16 snap-in connection system and is rated for 16A / 230V, so it installs in line with the inlet and consumer unit without tools.
