Garmin Airmar P79 NMEA2000 In Hull Mount Depth Smart Sensor

Description
The P79 smart sensor is a plastic in-hull depth transducer with an adjustable deadrise cradle that makes installation easy. Rather than feeding a sounder module, it processes the sonar return internally and outputs depth straight onto a NMEA 2000 network, so it can be read by compatible Garmin chartplotters and instruments without a separate black-box sounder.
Operating at 235 kHz with 100 W of power, it reaches depths of 500 ft using a focused 6 degree beam and shoots its signal through the hull. The adjustable mount accommodates deadrise angles from 0 to 22 degrees. It is also known as the Airmar P79.
The P79 is intended for single-skin fibreglass up to 8 mm (5/8 in) thick and is not recommended for cored hulls. Any imperfections in the fibreglass layup can affect performance, so a thru-hull transducer is preferable where one can be fitted.
