Description

The Garmin GMR 18 HD3 brings high-definition magnetron radar to a compact 18-inch radome. With 4 kW of peak power it delivers reliable detection from 20 m out to 36 nautical miles, making it a capable choice for cruising and coastal navigation.

As part of the HD3 family it introduces scan averaging, which filters out sea clutter and interference to give a cleaner, more consistent radar picture. Target-size processing uses pulse expansion to optimise on-screen object shapes for easier interpretation, while true echo trails display a historical trail of moving boats to help you spot potential collision threats.

A 5.2-degree horizontal beamwidth and 24 RPM antenna keep the image sharp, and dual-range with overlay lets you watch close and long range at the same time. The radome connects over Garmin BlueNet and Garmin Marine Network, carries an IPX7 water rating and is controlled entirely from a compatible Garmin chartplotter.

Is the GMR 18 HD3 a magnetron or solid-state radar?
The GMR 18 HD3 is a magnetron radar with 4 kW of peak power. It is the first Garmin magnetron radar to offer scan averaging, along with target-size processing and true echo trails.
What is the maximum range of the GMR 18 HD3?
The radar detects targets from a minimum of 20 m (66 ft) out to a maximum of 36 nautical miles.
How does the HD3 differ from the xHD3 radome?
The 18 HD3 has a 4 kW magnetron, an antenna rotation of 24 RPM and a 36 nm maximum range. The 18/24 xHD3 models add up to 60 RPM rotation and a 48 nm maximum range.
What does scan averaging do?
Scan averaging filters out sea clutter and interference on the display to provide more consistent, easier-to-read targets.
Which networks does the GMR 18 HD3 use?
It uses Garmin BlueNet networking technology and is compatible with both Garmin BlueNet and Garmin Marine Network devices.
What is the water rating?
The GMR 18 HD3 carries an IEC 60529 IPX7 water rating, withstanding incidental immersion in up to 1 m of water for up to 30 minutes.
