Description

The Energy Solutions IsoBoost3 is a hull isolation transformer that protects your vessel from galvanic corrosion while safely delivering shore power to the onboard electrical system. It breaks the earth connection on the incoming shore supply and induces power onto a fully isolated secondary winding, so there is no direct electrical connection between the dock cable and the boat wiring. Built as a double wound transformer to BS EN 60076-1, it carries a protective screen between the input and output windings and soft starts automatically to stop inrush current tripping the marina supply breaker. A boost function manages the volt drop found on long or heavily loaded shore lines. When the input is in range the unit runs in 1:1 mode so the output matches the input, and if the voltage falls below the boost threshold it automatically switches into boost mode to raise the output, returning to 1:1 when the supply recovers. A built in digital power meter with Modbus communication monitors voltage, frequency, current, power factor, energy use, harmonics and alarms, with an optional remote display, and the IsoBoost3 is a fit and form replacement for Charles Industries IsoBoost transformers.

What does an isolation transformer do for my boat?
It breaks the earth connection between the marina shore supply and your vessel, removing the galvanic loop that causes accelerated corrosion of the hull, anodes and underwater fittings. The transformer induces power onto a fully isolated secondary winding, so shore power reaches the boat with no direct electrical connection to the dock earth.
What is the boost function and when does it operate?
The IsoBoost3 normally runs in 1:1 mode so the output matches the input voltage. On the Euro specification it automatically switches into boost mode when the input falls below about 218V, raising the output by around 10% to counter the volt drop on long or heavily loaded shore lines, then returns to 1:1 when the supply recovers.
Can the IsoBoost3 replace a Charles Industries IsoBoost transformer?
Yes. The IsoBoost3 is designed as a fit and form replacement for Charles Industries IsoBoost transformers, so it suits vessels originally specified with that unit. Choose the US or Euro specification and kVA rating to match your shore supply and switchboard.
