Description
This Energy Solutions marine isolation transformer provides galvanic isolation between the marina shore supply and your vessel, protecting the hull, anodes and underwater fittings from the accelerated corrosion that occurs when the onboard AC earth is bonded to the sea. The dual wound design induces power onto a fully isolated secondary winding, with a screen between the primary and secondary windings rated to carry twice the full load current of the transformer, exceeding the requirements of ABYC E-8.20.1. Every transformer is built to comply with Lloyds Register (LRS) requirements and is protected with a UL approved vacuum impregnated polyester varnish.
Housed in an air cooled, powder coated steel enclosure, the unit includes a soft start to prevent the shore breaker tripping on connection, an input isolator and a door mounted output circuit breaker, with a 230V AC cooling fan. The output can be configured as 0-230V 3 wire Euro or 120-0-120V 4 wire USA to suit the vessel switchboard. Energy Solutions has designed and built marine transformers in the UK since 1996 and can also supply single phase, split phase and three phase custom units to order.

Why do I need an isolation transformer when connecting to shore power?
Bonding the onboard AC earth to the sea, as required by good practice, Lloyds rules and the Recreational Craft Directive, creates a galvanic loop that can accelerate corrosion of the hull, anodes and underwater fittings even when anodes are fitted. An isolation transformer breaks the shore earth connection while still delivering shore power, removing that loop and protecting the vessel.
How is the output configured?
Energy Solutions transformers are configured to provide either a 0-230V 3 wire Euro output or a 120-0-120V 4 wire USA output, and the unit is ABYC compliant. For UK built boats the output neutral is usually bonded to earth, which allows single pole circuit breakers and switches to be used.
Is this transformer suitable for commercial or classed vessels?
Yes. Every transformer is built to comply with Lloyds Register (LRS) requirements, uses an inter-winding screen rated to carry twice the full load current (exceeding ABYC E-8.20.1 by 100%), and is protected with a UL approved vacuum impregnated polyester varnish. Custom single phase, split phase and three phase units can also be supplied.
