What does the NSPL-500 do?
The NSPL-500 lets a single VHF antenna be shared between your AIS Class B transceiver and your VHF voice radio, so you do not need to fit a second antenna. It also has an optional FM radio antenna output. Operation is fully automatic with no user controls.
Is it compatible with the NAIS-500?
Yes. The NSPL-500 is designed specifically to work with the NAIS-500 Class B AIS transceiver and is supplied with the correct connection cables. It also works with AIS receivers. It must not be used with Class A transceivers, Aids to Navigation transceivers or AIS base stations.
Does the splitter reduce my AIS or VHF range?
There is no insertion loss on the AIS and VHF receive paths and only a typical 1 dB loss on transmit, so any reduction in transmission range is very small and normal. When the VHF radio transmits, AIS position reports pause momentarily, as both devices cannot transmit at the same time through one antenna.
What is in the box?
The NSPL-500 splitter, a VHF radio connection cable (red sleeves), an AIS transceiver connection cable (green sleeves), a power and FM radio cable, four fixing screws, the product manual and warranty information.
Where should it be installed?
The NSPL-500 must be fitted below decks, at least 0.3 m from a compass or magnetic device, and away from flammable areas. It is fully waterproof to IP67 but should not be subjected to prolonged spray or submersion.
