Description

The Simrad RC42 is an intelligent rate compass that significantly improves the dynamic performance of autopilots and stabilised radar displays. It combines a magnetic fluxgate sensor, which provides a reliable long-term directional reference, with an integrated solid-state rate-of-turn sensor that enables precise auto-steering even in a seaway. Heading accuracy is +/- 3 degrees after automatic calibration, with roll and pitch sensing across +/- 35 degrees.

The compass transmits calibrated heading, rate-of-turn, magnetic field and status data over SimNet / NMEA 2000 (PGN 127250 and 127251), updating at 20 Hz when selected as the heading source, and also offers an NMEA 0183 heading output. It mounts on deck or a bulkhead close to the vessel's centre of roll and pitch, and is supplied with a 5.5 m (18 ft) SimNet cable and installation accessories. The IP56-rated off-white ABS housing suits typical below-deck mounting positions.
