Description
The Cortex M1 is the hub at the heart of the Cortex system: a full Class B SOTDMA smartAIS transponder with built-in vessel monitoring. SOTDMA transmits at 5 W, helping your boat stand out in dense traffic, while smartAIS continuously calculates collision risk and warns you with voiced alerts. A built-in heading sensor broadcasts your direction so other vessels can predict your movements more accurately.
Built-in Wi-Fi and cellular connect the Cortex apps, letting you monitor battery voltage, bilge, position, depth and more, on board or from ashore, and receive anchor-drag and man overboard alerts. An integrated no-loss splitter shares one antenna between AIS and VHF, and isolated NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 ports share data with compatible chartplotters and instruments. Add a Cortex H1 or H1P touchscreen handset whenever you want full 25 W VHF voice and Class D DSC.

What is the difference between the Cortex M1 and Cortex V1?
The M1 is the Cortex hub on its own: a full Class B SOTDMA smartAIS transponder with vessel monitoring, but no VHF voice radio. The V1 is the same hub supplied with a Cortex H1 tethered touchscreen handset, which adds full 25 W VHF voice and Class D DSC. You can upgrade an M1 to full VHF at any time by adding a Cortex handset.
Does the Cortex M1 transmit AIS?
Yes. The M1 is a full Class B SOTDMA smartAIS transponder that both transmits and receives. SOTDMA transmits at 5 W to help your vessel be seen over a greater distance, and adds smartAIS collision avoidance, anchor watch and man overboard alerts.
What is included with the Cortex M1?
The M1 comes with the Cortex M1 hub, a GPS antenna with a 10 m cable, a power cable, an audio cable, an external sensors cable, an external Wi-Fi antenna and a VHF patch cable. A VHF/AIS antenna, a fuse or circuit breaker and fixings are required but not supplied.
How does remote vessel monitoring work?
The hub has built-in Wi-Fi and cellular. The Cortex Onboard App monitors and configures the system over Wi-Fi on board, while the Cortex Monitor App sends status and alerts to your smartphone over the cellular network from ashore. Free monitoring gives twice-daily updates; a Premium subscription adds real-time updates and remote device control.
How many sensors can the Cortex M1 monitor?
The hub has five external sensor inputs for directly connected sensors such as bilge level and pump, temperature, security and wind, plus battery voltage and barometric pressure built in. It can also monitor sensors across the NMEA 2000 network.
Does the Cortex M1 work with NMEA 2000?
Yes. The hub has an isolated NMEA 2000 Micro-C port and a NMEA 0183 port with gateway translation between them, outputting AIS, GPS and MOB data to compatible chartplotters, MFDs and instruments.
