Description

The EmpirBus NXT MCU (Master Control Unit) is the brain of a larger EmpirBus digital switching installation. It is the central processor that holds the configuration for every unit in the system, executes the control logic and makes the decisions that turn switch presses and sensor readings into outputs. On systems of three or more control modules, the MCU is the component that ties everything together.

The MCU communicates with the rest of the installation over the NMEA 2000 network and connects to a PC through a USB socket using standard Microsoft drivers, so configuration files can be loaded with EmpirBus software. Because it stores the data for every unit, the MCU can redistribute a module's configuration automatically if that module is ever replaced. A three-digit display with touch buttons and an integrated buzzer provide local feedback, and an optional GSM module allows the system to be reached by SMS. The rugged IP65 enclosure suits permanent installation below decks.

SystemEmpirBus NXT digital switching (required for systems of 3 or more control modules)
When do I need an MCU in an EmpirBus system?
The master control unit is required on larger systems, typically those with three or more control modules. It is the central processor that stores the configuration and drives the whole installation.
How is the MCU configured?
The MCU connects to a PC through a USB socket using standard Microsoft drivers, allowing configuration files to be loaded with EmpirBus software. It then stores and executes that configuration for every unit in the system.
What happens if another module is replaced?
Because the MCU stores the data for every unit in the system, it automatically redistributes the correct configuration to a replacement module once its base address has been entered.
Does the MCU support remote access?
An optional integrated GSM module allows interaction with the system by SMS. The MCU also has a three-digit display with touch buttons and an integrated buzzer for local feedback.
