Description
The R199 is the most powerful in-hull transducer designed for the Garmin GSD 24 advanced sounder module. It delivers the full 2 kW deep-water performance of the thru-hull R99 while shooting its signal through a solid fibreglass hull, so there is no need to drill below the waterline and no exposed housing to foul or damage when the boat is trailered.
Operating at 50 kHz and 200 kHz, it reaches depths of 2,500 to 4,000 ft and uses a narrow beam of 8 x 17 degrees at low frequency and 5 degrees at high frequency to hold target detail well into deep water. The unit reports depth and connects through an 8-pin plug on a 39 ft cable.
The R199 accommodates hull deadrise angles from 0 to 22 degrees and must be bonded to solid fibreglass no more than 1.5 in thick; it is not suitable for cored hulls. When connecting to an older 6-pin Garmin sounder, transducer adapter cable 010-11612-00 is required.
