Description

The Garmin VHF 215i AIS combines a full-featured fixed-mount marine VHF radio with an integrated AIS receiver, so nearby AIS-equipped vessels appear directly on a connected Garmin chartplotter for improved situational awareness and collision avoidance. Selectable 1 W and 25 W transmit power and Class D digital selective calling deliver dependable communication and one-touch distress alerts once your MMSI is programmed. Built-in GPS supports DSC position reporting, and the radio carries International, USA and Canada marine channels plus the ten NOAA weather channels. Connectivity over NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 lets the radio share AIS, GPS and DSC information across the helm. A built-in 20 W hailer with foghorn and listen-back extends communication around the boat, the fist microphone is removable, and the optional GHS 11 wired handset can be added as a second station. The IPX7-rated housing is styled to match Garmin GPSMAP chartplotters and MFDs.

Does the VHF 215i AIS transmit AIS or only receive?
The VHF 215i AIS includes a built-in AIS receiver. It displays nearby AIS-equipped vessels on a connected chartplotter but does not transmit your own AIS position. To transmit your position, a dedicated AIS transceiver such as the AIS 800 is required.
How are AIS targets displayed?
When the radio is connected to a compatible Garmin chartplotter over NMEA 2000 or NMEA 0183, received AIS targets are overlaid on the chart to aid situational awareness and collision avoidance.
Does it have built-in GPS?
Yes. The VHF 215i AIS has built-in GPS, which supports DSC position reporting and AIS target plotting.
What transmit power and DSC class does it use?
It transmits at a selectable 1 W or 25 W and provides standard Class D DSC for distress and direct calling once your MMSI is programmed.
Can I add a second handset?
Yes. The fist microphone is removable, and the radio is compatible with the optional GHS 11 wired handset for a remote second station.
