Description

The Garmin TM185M is a 1 kW transom-mount CHIRP transducer that works on a single medium band of 85 to 135 kHz, covering the popular 88 and 107 kHz fishing frequencies plus everything in between for 50 kHz of bandwidth. The medium frequency strikes a balance between depth and resolution, sounding deeper than a high-frequency transducer while keeping a wider 16 to 11 degree beam for more coverage under the boat. With 1 kW of transmit power the TM185M sounds to 1,500 ft, making it well suited to shallow and mid-range offshore and freshwater fishing. It mounts easily on the transom using its stainless-steel bracket, suiting transom angles of 3 to 21 degrees on boats up to 10 m. An integral depth and fast-response temperature sensor is built in. The TM185M runs on Garmin chartplotters with a built-in 1 kW CHIRP sounder, or through the Garmin GSD 26 or GSD 25 sonar module.

What frequency does the TM185M use?
It is a single-band medium CHIRP transducer sweeping 85 to 135 kHz, covering the popular 88 and 107 kHz frequencies plus everything in between, with 1 kW of transmit power.
Why choose a medium-frequency transducer?
Medium frequency balances depth and resolution. It sounds deeper than a high-frequency transducer while keeping a wider 16 to 11 degree beam, giving more coverage under the boat and clear images at higher boat speeds.
Does the TM185M need a separate sonar module?
Not necessarily. It runs directly on Garmin chartplotters that have a built-in 1 kW CHIRP sounder, such as the GPSMAP xsv series. Where there is no built-in 1 kW sounder it can be driven by the Garmin GSD 26 or GSD 25 sonar module.
How deep can the TM185M sound?
It sounds to approximately 1,500 ft, depending on water conditions, which suits shallow to mid-range fishing.
How is the TM185M mounted?
It mounts on the transom using its stainless-steel bracket, suiting transom angles of 3 to 21 degrees on boats up to 10 m (32 ft).
