Description
The Balmar 94-24-140-IG is a 140-amp, 24-volt large-case marine alternator built for mid-duty-cycle service on diesel engines and sized to support 24-volt house banks of up to roughly 400 amp hours. It shares the rugged construction of the 94-Series: extra heavy-duty custom-wound stators, high-amperage diode packs and heavy-duty brushes in a ventilated cast-aluminium case with a corrosion-resistant white powder-coat finish. The series has a long track record on ocean racers, commercial fishing boats and patrol vessels operating in demanding conditions.
The 94-24-140-IG uses a 2 inch single-foot spindle mount in the Delco style and an isolated-ground terminal that provides sure continuity to system ground. It is engineered for use with an external Balmar multi-stage voltage regulator, allowing charging voltage to be matched to the battery chemistry for safe, efficient replenishment. Bi-directional external cooling fans, sealed ball bearings and a threaded M8 stud positive output complete a design built to USCG Title 33 ignition-protection standards. This model belongs to the 94-Series, which Balmar discontinued in 2024.

Does the 94-24-140-IG require an external regulator?
Yes. The large-case 94-Series has no internal regulator and is built for external multi-stage regulation. For 24-volt operation Balmar specifies the Max Charge regulator, which lets you tailor charging voltage to your battery chemistry for safe, efficient charging.
How large a 24V battery bank can it support?
This 140-amp, 24-volt model is sized to support 24-volt house banks of up to roughly 400 amp hours. Its heavy-duty windings and diode pack are designed for mid-duty-cycle marine service.
What engines does the mount suit?
It uses a 2 inch single-foot spindle mount in the Delco style, common on engines such as Volvo Penta, John Deere, Perkins and other GM-based marine diesels. Confirm your engine's mounting foot and belt configuration before ordering.
