Description
The Balmar AT-SF-165-K6 is a compact, high-output marine alternator rated at 165 amps on a 12 volt system. Part of Balmar's AT (Advanced Technology) Series, it uses a hairpin-wound stator with densely packed square copper wire to generate exceptional output from a small case, delivering up to around 125 amps even at idle speeds. The design runs efficiently and stays cool thanks to dual internal fans, a high airflow frame and generous heat sinking, making it a strong charging solution for cruising vessels with large battery banks.
The AT-SF-165-K6 fits a 1 inch or 2 inch single foot (spindle) mount and comes with a K6 serpentine pulley. It uses a dedicated grounding terminal (isolated ground) and is designed for external multi-stage regulation with a Balmar regulator such as the MC-614. Certified to USCG Title 33, ISO and SAE ignition-protection standards, it should be run only in Dual Vee or multi-groove serpentine belt configurations.

How much power does the AT-SF-165-K6 make at idle?
The AT-Series 165A design produces up to around 125 amps at idle speed, well above the 30 to 40 amps typical of a standard alternator, so it keeps charging your bank even when the engine is barely off idle.
Does this alternator have a built-in regulator?
No. The AT-SF-165-K6 is externally regulated and is designed to run with a Balmar multi-stage regulator such as the MC-614, which lets you set the correct charge program for your battery chemistry.
What belt setup does it require?
AT-Series alternators should only be run in Dual Vee or multi-groove serpentine belt configurations. If your engine does not already have a suitable pulley, a Balmar AltMount conversion kit may be required to handle the alternator load.
