Description
The Balmar XT-SF-170-DV is a small-case, high-output marine alternator rated at 170 amps on a 12 volt system. It is part of Balmar's flagship XT-Series, which uses a state-of-the-art braided-wire stator with 96 slots to deliver exceptional charging output from a compact frame while running cooler than the earlier AT-Series. Producing up to 128 amps at idle, the XT-170 is ideal for large battery banks, including lithium, that need strong charging even at low engine speeds.
This standard case-ground version fits a 1 inch or 2 inch single foot (spindle) mount and is supplied with a dual deep vee pulley. The 1 inch Motorola-style mount suits engines such as Westerbeke, Lehman, Hino and Pathfinder, while the 2 inch Delco-style mount suits Volvo Penta, John Deere, Perkins, Mercruiser, Pleasurecraft, Crusader, Indmar, Marine Power and other GM-based engines. The XT-Series includes an internal Smart Ready voltage regulator and is also compatible with Balmar external multi-stage regulation, with dual internal fans for cooling and USCG Title 33, ISO 8846 and SAE J1171 certification.

Does the XT-SF-170-DV use case ground or isolated ground?
This is the standard case-ground version, where the alternator grounds through its case to the engine. If your installation needs an isolated ground alternator, Balmar offers isolated ground XT-170 variants for that purpose.
What does the DV pulley designation mean?
DV stands for dual deep vee, a half inch dual vee pulley. It suits engines that already run a dual vee belt drive. The XT-Series must be run in Dual Vee or multi-groove serpentine belt configurations only.
Which engines does the single foot version fit?
