Description
The Balmar XT-DF4-250-K6 is a small-case, high-output marine alternator rated at 250 amps on a 12 volt system, the largest output in Balmar's flagship XT-Series. Its state-of-the-art braided-wire stator with 96 slots delivers exceptional charging power from a compact frame while running cooler than the previous AT-Series designs. The XT-250 produces up to 186 amps at idle, making it an excellent choice for large house battery banks, including lithium, on vessels with high electrical demand.
This version fits a 4 inch dual foot (J-180 style) saddle mount and comes with a K6 serpentine pulley and case ground termination. It is typically installed on John Deere, Cummins and Caterpillar engines. The XT-Series includes an internal Smart Ready voltage regulator for added fault tolerance and is also compatible with Balmar external multi-stage regulation. Dual internal fans and a high airflow frame keep it cool under heavy load, and it meets USCG Title 33, ISO 8846 and SAE J1171 requirements.

How much power does the XT-250 make at idle?
The XT-250 produces up to 186 amps at idle on a 12 volt system, a very high figure that lets it service large electrical loads and keep house banks topped up even at low engine speed.
Do I need a bigger belt or pulley for a 250A alternator?
The XT-250 has a power take-off of about 6.6 HP and must be run in a Dual Vee or multi-groove serpentine belt configuration. If your engine does not already have a suitable serpentine or dual vee drive, a Balmar AltMount conversion kit is recommended to handle the load reliably.
Which mount does the XT-DF4-250-K6 use?
It uses a 4 inch dual foot J-180 style saddle mount with a K6 serpentine pulley, typical for larger diesels such as John Deere, Cummins and Caterpillar engines.
