Description

The Victron Lynx Smart BMS NG 1000 is the battery management heart of a larger Victron Lithium NG DC system. It manages a bank of the newer Victron Lithium NG (LiFePO4) batteries by monitoring every cell, and it protects the bank through a built-in 1000 A safety contactor that disconnects loads or chargers if the primary controls fail. Up to 50 batteries can be combined for a 12 V, 24 V or 48 V system, and the higher current rating suits installations with powerful inverter/chargers and heavy DC loads.

Beyond protection, the BMS is a complete control and monitoring hub. A built-in battery monitor reports state of charge, voltage, current and historical data in real time, with cell voltages and temperatures readable on a GX device and the VRM portal, plus Instant Readout over Bluetooth for diagnostics at a glance. Allowed-to-charge (ATC) and allowed-to-discharge (ATD) contacts switch external chargers and loads, while DVCC closed-loop control automatically manages compatible Victron inverter/chargers, the Orion XS DC-DC charger and solar charge controllers through a connected GX device.

The Lynx Smart BMS NG slots onto the M10 Lynx Distributor busbar system, monitoring the fuses of up to four connected Lynx Distributors and feeding data to a GX device and the VRM portal. A pre-charge circuit handles capacitive loads such as inverters without external pre-charging, a programmable relay and AUX supply add flexibility, and VE.Can with NMEA 2000 output makes integration into a marine network simple. This NG version is designed specifically for the Victron Lithium NG batteries.

What is the NG version and how is it different?
NG stands for the new generation of Victron Lithium batteries. The Lynx Smart BMS NG is designed specifically for the Victron Lithium NG (LiFePO4) batteries and lets you build much larger banks, up to 50 batteries, where the original Lynx Smart BMS supports up to 20 of the earlier Lithium Smart batteries.
What does a BMS actually do in a Victron lithium system?
It is the management and safety brain of the battery bank. The Lynx Smart BMS NG monitors the cells in the connected Lithium NG batteries, keeps a built-in battery monitor running for state of charge and current, signals chargers and loads through its allowed-to-charge and allowed-to-discharge contacts, and, as a last line of defence, opens a built-in 1000 A contactor to physically disconnect the bank if anything goes wrong.
Should I choose the 1000 A NG version?
The 1000 A rating is the continuous current the built-in contactor can carry. Choose it for larger systems where the combined continuous current of inverter/chargers and DC loads through the bank approaches or exceeds the 500 A version. Both NG versions use an M10 busbar that combines with all M10 Lynx products.
How does the pre-charge circuit help?
When you connect a capacitive load such as a MultiPlus, Quattro or other inverter, the inrush current can be very high. The built-in pre-charge circuit limits that inrush before the main contactor closes, so you do not need a separate external pre-charge device.
Can I read the BMS data on a marine MFD?
Yes. The Lynx Smart BMS NG communicates over VE.Can, and because the CAN-bus protocol is based on NMEA 2000 it integrates into a marine network. Feeding data to a compatible MFD requires a VE.Can to NMEA 2000 micro-C male cable. You can also monitor over Bluetooth in VictronConnect or through a GX device and the VRM portal, including cell voltages and temperatures.
Does it work with the Lynx Distributor busbar system?
Yes. The Lynx Smart BMS NG slots onto the M10 Lynx busbar and monitors the fuses of up to four connected Lynx Distributors, reporting a blown-fuse alarm in VictronConnect or on a GX device.
