Description

The SmartPlug 50A connector converts an existing 50A shore power cord to the SmartPlug system. Cut off the old twist-type plug, strip the conductors and fasten them into the colour-coded guides to give a large-current cord a safe, push-in boat-side connection.

It retrofits either a 125V or 250V cord, with cord seals included for either cable diameter, and uses large nickel-plated brass contacts for over 27 times the metal-to-metal area of a twist-type plug. Dual stainless side levers lock it into a SmartPlug 50A inlet so movement of the cord cannot loosen the pins. Certified ETL to ABYC E-11; requires a SmartPlug 50A inlet.

What makes SmartPlug safer than a twist-type shore power connector?
Most shore power failures and fires are caused by overheating, not electrical shorting. A twist-type plug relies on a few curved pins that also carry the weight of the cord, so they work loose, arc and overheat. SmartPlug uses a push-in sleeve so the plug body takes the cord's load, provides over 27 times the pin contact area, and seals the connection behind three weatherproof gaskets.
How do I fit the connector to my cord?
Cut the old twist-type plug off your existing shore power cord, strip the conductors and secure them into the colour-coded wire guides, then close the cord seal. No special tools are needed beyond basic wiring tools.
Which inlet does it need?
It plugs into a SmartPlug 50A inlet (BM50S) fitted to the boat, and suits either a 125V or 250V cord.
