Description

The Balmar Centerfielder II is a charge balancer for twin-engine vessels that use two alternators and two Balmar external regulators to charge a single battery bank. It senses when only one engine is running, and when the second engine starts it determines which regulator's field current is dominant and directs that field current to both alternators. This even distribution ensures both alternators deliver comparable percentages of their available capacity, so the combined output of both machines charges one house bank in a balanced, controlled way. For best performance the two regulators should be identical. Beyond balancing charge across both alternators, the Centerfielder II adds valuable redundancy: should either the port or starboard regulator fail, the unit ensures both alternators continue to supply charging current from the remaining regulator. It works in both 12-volt and 24-volt systems and is designed for use with Balmar MC-612 or MC-624 regulators. Installation is straightforward, and the unit is supplied with the spade and wire-tap connectors needed for wiring, along with two fused 12-gauge replacement power wires for the regulator harnesses.

What does the Centerfielder II do?
In a twin-engine boat with two alternators and two Balmar regulators charging one battery bank, the Centerfielder II directs the dominant regulator's field current to both alternators. This balances their output so the two alternators charge a single house bank evenly.
Which regulators does it work with?
The Centerfielder II is designed for use with Balmar MC-612 or MC-624 regulators. For best performance the two regulators in the system should be identical.
Does it work on 24V systems?
Yes. The Centerfielder II works in both 12-volt and 24-volt charging systems.
