Description

The Balmar Max Charge MC-620 is a multi-stage voltage regulator developed specifically for 48-volt charging systems. It is intended for exclusive use with Balmar's 96-Series 48-volt alternators, the 60 amp 96-48-60-K6 and the 100 amp 96-48-100-K8, and gives these high-output machines the same intelligent, battery-specific regulation found across the Max Charge range. Its microprocessor provides individualised charging profiles for universal, lead-acid starting, lead-acid deep cycle, gel, AGM, spiral wound AGM (such as Optima) and halogen loads, ramping smoothly through bulk, absorption and float for a complete, controlled charge. Because the 96-Series alternators produce so much power, the MC-620 requires the MC-TS-A alternator temperature sensor, which is not included in the harness and must be purchased separately. The sensor lets the regulator monitor alternator temperature and use active temperature regulation to limit output and protect the alternator if safe operating levels are exceeded. For lithium banks the MC-620 disables charging at or below freezing and both the MC-TS-A and MC-TS-B temperature sensors are required. Note that although this is a 48-volt charging system, the regulator's field input operates at 12 volts, so 48 volts must never be applied to the regulator. This version is supplied complete with the wiring harness.

PRODUCT DETAILS

Which alternators does the MC-620 work with?
The MC-620 is for exclusive use with Balmar 96-Series 48-volt alternators, the 60 amp 96-48-60-K6 and the 100 amp 96-48-100-K8. It is not a general-purpose regulator for other alternators.
Do I need a temperature sensor with the MC-620?
Yes. Because of the high output of the 96-Series alternators, the MC-TS-A alternator temperature sensor is required. It is not included in the harness and must be purchased separately. For lithium battery charging both the MC-TS-A and the MC-TS-B battery sensor are required.
This is a 48V system, so does the regulator run on 48V?
No. Although the MC-620 manages a 48-volt charging system, the regulator's field input operates at 12 volts. You must never apply 48 volts to the regulator.
