Description

The Simrad V5043 is a full-featured Class A AIS transponder system that delivers everything needed for IMO compliance at excellent value, and is also type approved for Inland AIS applications. Supplied as a complete standalone package with a junction box, GPS antenna, integrated pilot plug, cables and mounting hardware, it requires only a VHF antenna to complete the installation. A larger 4.3-inch colour display with an easy 11-key backlit keypad lets the V5043 be configured and operated on its own, showing AIS information in radar, alphanumeric and GNSS satellite views.

Adding AIS greatly enhances safety at sea, giving an instant overview of surrounding traffic and the movements of other vessels, including in radar blind zones. The V5043 transmits and receives on the two AIS channels, includes a dedicated DSC receiver and a 72-channel GNSS receiver supporting GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou and Galileo with SBAS. Comprehensive connectivity through three bi-directional NMEA 0183 ports, a NMEA 2000 bus and an Ethernet interface lets it share AIS data with navigation systems such as the Simrad MX610 and MX612 and E5000-series ECDIS, with the pilot plug available on the front panel or via a remote connection.

Is the V5043 a Class A or Class B AIS?
The V5043 is a full Class A AIS transponder, IMO type approved for use aboard SOLAS vessels and also type approved for Inland AIS. Class A is required for commercial and larger vessels and transmits at higher power (up to 12.5 W) with priority over Class B units.
What is included with the V5043?
The V5043 is supplied as a complete standalone system: the main unit with 4.3-inch colour display, an AIS junction box with NMEA 0183/2000 and sensor connections, a GPS antenna with 10 m cable, an integrated pilot plug assembly, interconnect cables and mounting hardware. Only a VHF antenna needs to be added.
Can the V5043 be used on its own without a chartplotter?
Yes. The V5043 has its own 4.3-inch colour display and 11-key keypad, so it can be fully configured and operated as a standalone unit, showing AIS targets in radar, alphanumeric and GNSS satellite views. It can also share AIS data with navigation systems via NMEA 0183, NMEA 2000 or Ethernet.
Which GNSS systems does the V5043 support?
The V5043 has a 72-channel internal GNSS receiver supporting GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou and Galileo, with SBAS augmentation (WAAS, EGNOS, MSAS and GAGAN) for position accuracy of around 2.5 m, or 2.0 m with SBAS.
Does the V5043 work with Simrad chartplotters and ECDIS?
Yes. AIS data can be shared over NMEA 2000, NMEA 0183 or Ethernet (IEC 61162-450) for display on connected navigation systems, including Simrad MX610 and MX612 navigation systems and the E5000-series ECDIS.
