The Raymarine Type 2 12V mechanical linear drive is a below-decks autopilot drive for mechanically steered boats up to 15,000kg (33,000 lbs) displacement. It pushes the rudder directly via the tiller arm or quadrant, delivers powerful thrust and fast hard-over times, and works with the ACU-400.

Description

The Raymarine Type 2 mechanical linear drive provides powerful thrust, fast hard-over times and quiet operation for boats with mechanical steering, such as sailboats and some powerboats. Mounted below decks, the linear drive moves the rudder directly by pushing on the boat's tiller arm or rudder quadrant. When the autopilot is disengaged, the electro-mechanical clutch releases to allow smooth, unobstructed hand-steering.

The fixed end of the drive is secured to the boat's structural members, while the moving end attaches to the rudder stock or quadrant via an independent tiller arm; accessory fittings from your steering system manufacturer may be required, and the steering must be able to be back-driven from the rudder. This short shaft Type 2 model suits vessels up to 15,000kg (33,000 lbs) displacement with a maximum stroke of 300 mm (12 in), on 12-volt DC power.

This drive forms the muscle of an Evolution autopilot and requires the ACU-400 actuator control unit. Because of the forces involved, Raymarine recommends professional installation.
