Description

The Simrad RS20S packs full Class D Digital Selective Calling into a compact, easy-to-fit fixed-mount VHF radio. A built-in GPS receiver and antenna mean your latitude, longitude and time are always available, and your position is automatically attached to DSC distress calls without relying on any other equipment. A separate built-in CH70 receiver keeps a constant watch on the digital distress channel while you use the radio normally.

Day-to-day operation is straightforward, with a four-key hand mic and built-in speaker, switchable 25 W or 1 W transmit power, dual and tri-watch scanning, weather channels and a dedicated distress key. NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 connectivity let the RS20S share GPS data with, and take position from, the rest of your onboard network, while submersible IPx7 construction makes it dependable in an open helm.

Does the RS20S have a built-in GPS?
Yes. The RS20S has a built-in GPS receiver and antenna mounted in the face of the radio, so your position is always available for DSC distress calls. You can also add an optional external GPS antenna, or take position from a networked NMEA 2000 or NMEA 0183 source.
Does the RS20S have an AIS receiver?
No. The RS20S is a Class D DSC VHF radio without an AIS receiver. For built-in AIS reception in a fixed-mount Simrad VHF, the RS40 adds a dual-channel AIS receiver.
What is DSC and is the RS20S Class D?
Digital Selective Calling lets you send a one-touch distress alert with your MMSI and position, and make direct digital calls to other DSC radios. The RS20S meets Global Class D DSC standards and includes a separate built-in CH70 receiver dedicated to the digital distress channel.
Is the RS20S waterproof?
Yes. The RS20S is waterproof and submersible to IPx7 and has a compass safe distance of 0.5 m.
Is an antenna included?
No. A VHF antenna is not supplied and should be chosen to suit your boat. The radio uses a standard SO-239 (50 ohm) antenna connector.
