The ACU-100 is the entry point to the Evolution actuator control unit range, housing the power and drive electronics that connect an Evolution autopilot to your vessel's steering system. Designed for 12 volt installations, it drives the Type 0.5 hydraulic pump, the Evolution cockpit wheel drive and the cockpit tiller drive. Combine it with an EV-1 Sensor Core and a p70s or p70Rs control head for a complete autopilot.

Description

The Raymarine ACU-100 Actuator Control Unit (E70098) supplies the drive output of an Evolution autopilot on smaller vessels. In a compact 180 x 140 x 52 mm enclosure weighing 0.6 kg, it houses the power and drive electronics that connect directly to the steering actuator and the boat's 12 volt DC supply, delivering up to 7 A continuous drive current. The drive electronics are sealed to IPx6, with an IPx2-rated connector panel.

The ACU-100 is matched to the Evolution cockpit drives: the Type 0.5 hydraulic pump for outboard hydraulic steering of 50 to 110 cc ram capacity, the Cockpit Mk II wheel drive and the cockpit tiller drive. It forms the core of the EV-100 Wheel, Tiller and Power autopilot packs. Pair it with the EV-1 Sensor Core and control the system from a p70s or p70Rs head or a compatible Axiom chartplotter. Standby consumption is just 300 mA.

Which ACU does my boat need?
Match the ACU to the drive: the ACU-100 runs the Evolution wheel and tiller drives and the Type 0.5 hydraulic pump; the ACU-150 runs Type 1 12 V hydraulic pumps (80 to 230 cc rams); the ACU-200 runs Type 1 hydraulic, mechanical linear and rotary drives; the ACU-300 is for solenoid-controlled steering; and the ACU-400 runs Type 2 and Type 3 drives.
Does an Evolution autopilot need calibration?
No. Set-up is automatic: the rudder gain, rudder damping, counter rudder and compass calibration routines required by earlier autopilots are no longer necessary, and the system keeps refining itself as you use the boat. This is documented in the EV-1 installation instructions (87472).
Do I need a rudder angle reference sensor?
Raymarine highly recommends the rudder angle reference transducer (M81105) on every Evolution system for optimum performance, and it is essential on ACU-300 solenoid installations. The EV-400 Sail and Power packs include a rotary rudder feedback unit, and the ACU-300 ships with one.
Does the ACU power the SeaTalkng network?
The ACU-200, ACU-300 and ACU-400 feed the SeaTalkng backbone with 3 A of fuse-protected 12 V power. The compact ACU-100 and ACU-150 do not power the backbone; it needs its own 12 V feed.
Can I control the autopilot from my chartplotter?
Yes. Compatible controllers include the Axiom, Axiom+, Axiom Pro, Axiom 2 Pro, Axiom XL and Axiom 2 XL chartplotter families as well as the p70s and p70Rs pilot heads. Axiom 2 Pro and Axiom 2 XL need LightHouse 4 v4.4.70 or later; earlier families are supported per the compatibility tables in document 87472.
