Description
The Simrad NAC-1 is a compact autopilot computer designed for boats up to 9 metres (30 ft) in length. It is the brains behind the Outboard Pilot and DrivePilot systems, holding the steering algorithms and the electronics that drive the actuator motor and clutch. It is engineered to power either the Simrad PUMP-1 reversible hydraulic pump for hydraulic-steered outboards, or the HELM-1 drive unit for cable-steered vessels, with a reversible motor output rated at 8 A continuous and 16 A peak.
Simrad Virtual Rudder Feedback technology lets the NAC-1 run without a separate rudder feedback unit on outboard and sterndrive boats with planing hulls, cutting installation cost and complexity where a feedback sensor would be impractical. Where a physical sensor is preferred, the computer also supports the Simrad RF25 and 0-5 V rudder feedback units.
Plug-and-play connectors keep wiring to a minimum, and industry-standard NMEA 2000 networking links the NAC-1 to heading sensors, rudder feedback units and multifunction displays anywhere on board. The housing carries an IPx5 waterproof rating for typical bilge and locker installations.
