Description

The Raymarine p70Rs Autopilot Control Head (E70329) gives powerboat helms tactile rotary command of an Evolution autopilot. The rotary controller makes dialling in course changes immediate and intuitive and also drives power steer mode, while push buttons cover mode selection and standby. The 3.45 inch TFT screen is optically bonded, 320 x 240 pixels and 1,200 cd/m2 bright, so it stays readable in direct sunlight and fog-free in damp conditions.

Like the p70s, the p70Rs draws just 1.57 W over a single SeaTalkng spur (LEN 3) and carries IPx6 and IPx7 waterproof ratings. Glass bridge styling matches Axiom chartplotters, with black and gunmetal bezels plus a protective suncover in the box. It commands Evolution systems built on the EV-1 or EV-2 sensor with any ACU from ACU-100 to ACU-400, including the EV-200, EV-300, EV-400 and EV-DBW power packs in which it is supplied.

What is the difference between the p70s and p70Rs?
Both share the same 3.45 inch optically bonded colour display. The p70s uses push buttons with dedicated one and ten degree course keys and is designed for sailing boats. The p70Rs adds a rotary dial for course changes and power steer mode and is designed for power boats.
Which bezels are supplied with the p70s and p70Rs?
Both finishes come in the box: a black bezel matching Axiom chartplotters and a gunmetal bezel matching eS Series displays, plus a protective suncover.
Can I fit more than one pilot controller?
Yes. Several controllers can command the same autopilot, for example a p70Rs at the helm and an Axiom chartplotter at the flybridge. SeaTalk 1 era controllers can join via the SeaTalk 1 to SeaTalkng converter with limited functionality.
Does an Evolution autopilot need calibration?
No. Set-up is automatic: the rudder gain, rudder damping, counter rudder and compass calibration routines required by earlier autopilots are no longer necessary, and the system keeps refining itself as you use the boat. This is documented in the EV-1 installation instructions (87472).
Can I control the autopilot from my chartplotter?
Yes. Compatible controllers include the Axiom, Axiom+, Axiom Pro, Axiom 2 Pro, Axiom XL and Axiom 2 XL chartplotter families as well as the p70s and p70Rs pilot heads. Axiom 2 Pro and Axiom 2 XL need LightHouse 4 v4.4.70 or later; earlier families are supported per the compatibility tables in document 87472.
