Description

The Raymarine p70s Autopilot Control Head (E70328) puts precise push-button command of an Evolution autopilot at the helm of a sailing yacht. Its 3.45 inch TFT display is optically bonded for brighter colours, sharper contrast and fog-free operation, runs at 320 x 240 resolution and reaches 1,200 cd/m2, with day and night palettes. Dedicated keys give one and ten degree course changes, and wind vane steering mode with AutoTack control is available when a Raymarine wind instrument is on the network.

A single SeaTalkng spur connects power and data; consumption is just 1.57 W. The glass bridge styling complements Axiom chartplotters, and black (Axiom style) and gunmetal (eS Series style) bezels plus a suncover are all supplied. The p70s controls Evolution systems built on the EV-1 or EV-2 sensor and any ACU from the ACU-100 to the ACU-400. It is waterproof to IPx6 and IPx7 and flush mounts in a 90 mm cutout using template 87260.

What is the difference between the p70s and p70Rs?
Both share the same 3.45 inch optically bonded colour display. The p70s uses push buttons with dedicated one and ten degree course keys and is designed for sailing boats. The p70Rs adds a rotary dial for course changes and power steer mode and is designed for power boats.
Which bezels are supplied with the p70s and p70Rs?
Both finishes come in the box: a black bezel matching Axiom chartplotters and a gunmetal bezel matching eS Series displays, plus a protective suncover.
Can I fit more than one pilot controller?
Yes. Several controllers can command the same autopilot, for example a p70Rs at the helm and an Axiom chartplotter at the flybridge. SeaTalk 1 era controllers can join via the SeaTalk 1 to SeaTalkng converter with limited functionality.
Does an Evolution autopilot need calibration?
No. Set-up is automatic: the rudder gain, rudder damping, counter rudder and compass calibration routines required by earlier autopilots are no longer necessary, and the system keeps refining itself as you use the boat. This is documented in the EV-1 installation instructions (87472).
Can I control the autopilot from my chartplotter?
Yes. Compatible controllers include the Axiom, Axiom+, Axiom Pro, Axiom 2 Pro, Axiom XL and Axiom 2 XL chartplotter families as well as the p70s and p70Rs pilot heads. Axiom 2 Pro and Axiom 2 XL need LightHouse 4 v4.4.70 or later; earlier families are supported per the compatibility tables in document 87472.
